DOREEN- Real Estate

Doreen - A peaceful and relaxing place to call home.

Doreen is a family-friendly township located only forty-five minutes from the city.  With it's breathtaking views of Plenty Gorge Park and Yan Yean Reservoir, the area is surrounded by the beautiful foothills of the Yarra ranges and the lush forested levees of the Plenty River.

Doreen's history dates back to 1844, when Patrick Reid decided to settle in the area. He christened the place “Hazel Glen”; it would be called by that name until it was renamed Doreen in 1895.

The area offers an uncanny combination of both rural and urban living. The suburb’s eastern portion (located in the Shire of Nillumbik, close to Yarrambat and Nutfield) is largely rural and filled with large tracts of open spaces, while its western flank (located in the City of Whittlesea) is characterized by growing communities and strong suburban development. The two distinct areas are bisected by Yan Yean Road.

Living in Doreen

Doreen is a thriving real estate hub boasting ongoing urban development with a distinct country feel. The sold results in the area reveal a great mix of young and old buyers who are drawn to the myriad of activities and establishments available whilst still being affordable.

Most of the area’s commercial activity happens in Laurimar Estate. It’s a one stop shop for all things leisure. Within it are a selection of coffee shops, several retail stores, a bakery, a dental clinic, a salon, a travel agency, a supermarket, a doctor’s clinic, a pharmacy, and two gymnasiums. Although there are already a bevy of stores in Laurimar Estate, the center is still looking to expand, adding a jeweller, a bookstore, and several new restaurants.

The district is also home to two primary schools (Doreen Primary School and Laurimar Primary School) and three private schools (Ivanhoe Grammar School, Gilson College, and Plenty Valley Christian College) – each excellent choices for families looking for good schools.

Residents of the area often find that Doreen provides both a safe family-oriented lifestyle and an upbeat environment.  Families or singles looking for a house for sale in Doreen or a property for rent in Doreen can enjoy the luxuries of country life alongside the conveniences of modern living as it contains a lot of open space and is close to the city. Moreover, the contrasting districts within the neighborhood provide a variety of options for any type of person.

Recreation

Aside from the many options for retail therapy, Doreen also boasts several parks and picnic grounds. One of the most impressive of these is Collingrove Park adjacent to the Laurimar Wetlands, which features some of the most imposing gum trees and several innovative playground sets. The place is perfect for a family affair: fresh-off-the-grill barbecue for the adults and a cool playground for the kids.

Transportation

The suburb is best traversed by car, as there are many side streets unreachable via public transportation. Those who want to commute into the city can take a 12km drive to South Morang train station and board a train or take the bus.
