Suburb Profile

Diamond Creek

Diamond Creek: A large suburb with lots of lovely open spaces

Diamond Creek is a lovely suburb situated just 23 kilometres north-east of Melbourne’s CBD. Originally a mining community, it has developed into a sprawling residential area with schools, shopping centres, parks, and sports clubs.  The area is under the local government of the Shire of Nillumbik and has a population over 11,000.

As a former mining community, Diamond Creek was barely inhabited in the years following the mining boom.  However, as mining communities in the area were converted into residential communities during the 1960s, Diamond Creek transformed the majority of its land into real estate.  This created the developed hectares of suburban housing today.
