Doreen is a family-friendly township located only forty-five minutes from the city.  With its breathtaking views of Plenty Gorge Park and Yan Yean Reservoir, the area is surrounded by the beautiful foothills of the Yarra ranges and the lush forested levees of the Plenty River.

Doreen's history dates back to 1844, when Patrick Reid decided to settle in the area and christen the place ‘Hazel Glen’.  It would then be called by that name until renamed Doreen in 1895.

The area offers an uncanny combination of both rural and urban living.  The suburb’s eastern portion (located in the Shire of Nillumbik, close to Yarrambat and Nutfield) is largely rural and filled with large tracts of open spaces, while its western flank (located in the City of Whittlesea) is characterized by growing communities and strong suburban development.  The two distinct areas are bisected by Yan Yean Road.

The district is also home to two primary schools (Doreen Primary School and Laurimar Primary School) and three private schools (Ivanhoe Grammar School, Gilson College, and Plenty Valley Christian College).
